FAQs

1) What makes your office different?

We know that a trip to the dentist isn’t in your top 3 list of things to do. That is why it is very important to choose a dental office with your overall well-being and comfort in mind. We aim to provide you with a comfortable dental experience by utilizing modern technology such as syringe-free anesthesia and low-dose radiation x-rays, as well as relaxing amenities such as complimentary beverages/snacks, TV in every room, noise-cancelling headphones, blankets, and much more! We also understand the value of your time, and that’s why we offer same-day CAD/CAM all-porcelain, metal-free crowns with no 2nd appointment and no additional injections! Our diverse team is fluent in different languages such as Spanish and Tagalog, because any successful relationship starts with good communication. Here at Smile Horizons Dentistry, we commit to working as a team to provide you with the best possible experience we can offer.

3) What do I need to bring to my 1st visit?

We value everyone's time so we offer patient info and HIPAA forms to fill out at your convenience online to help make your first visit as smooth as possible. We kindly request that you bring a government-issued photo ID and insurance card (if you have insurance). If you need assistance in filling out the online forms, please arrive 10-15 mins prior to your appointment time so that one of our helpful team members can assist you.

4) Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely! Whether or not you have insurance, we offer different payment plans suitable to your budget such as CareCredit, Lending Club, etc. For those without insurance, we offer different membership plans tailored to your needs. Give us a call to find out more!

5) Are your "fillings" free of mercury / silver / metal?

Yes, the “fillings” we provide are tooth-colored and are metal-free! Metal (amalgam) fillings were highly used decades ago, but with current dental advancements in chemistry and physics, why shouldn’t teeth look like teeth after being restored?! We care strongly about the strength, longevity, and esthetics of our work and tailor each case differently. And that is why we offer metal-free resin and porcelain fillings. 6) Do you see kids?

Not only do we see kids, but we love kids! We believe that every child deserves a great experience at the dentist. Most dental fear is caused by bad childhood experiences, and we want to break this trend. If your child needs extra TLC, we teamed up with amazing pediatric dentists in the valley to ensure that your child will have a great dental experience!

7) How often should I go to the dentist?

Every patient’s need is different. We highly recommend going to the dentist every 6 months for an examination and whenever an emergency occurs. For cleanings, the frequency is different for a person with active gum disease versus a person with healthy gums. Denture patients often ask why they need a check-up if they have no teeth; however, each examination is much more than just checking teeth. Our comprehensive and recall exams also include evaluation of your cheeks, gums and tongue for infections, suspicious growths, sores, etc. We customize every exam and treatment recommendation according to each patient’s need.

8) Are x-rays required? What if I just want a cleaning?

Yes, all dentists in the state of Nevada are required by law to complete a thorough oral examination prior to beginning any treatment (including teeth cleaning) on a new patient and this includes acquiring and interpreting dental x-rays. This policy ensures that a thorough and complete diagnosis is obtained because dentists have a professional obligation to provide treatment that is in the best interests of the patient. Active infections in the gums or bone can sometimes present with no pain but can only be seen with x-rays. We can’t diagnose what we can’t see. Please see Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 631.210

9) What do I do in case of a dental emergency?

We know that emergencies happen and are almost always unexpected. As part of our dental family, your dental needs are important to us especially when the unexpected happens. We urge you to give us a call so we can recommend a course of action accordingly. If you have difficulty breathing, trouble seeing, or are in extreme pain, please go to an urgent care facility or ER hospital right away and have a family member/friend contact us.

10) I’m afraid of shots. How can you help me?

Whether they’re for vaccines, the flu, or for dental work, “shots” are no fun. At Smile Horizons Dentistry, we utilize modern technology to help make every dental visit as stress-free as possible. We offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and oral sedation to help ease anxiety. We even offer syringe-free anesthetics by using computer-assisted technology to gently administer numbing medicine.
